Scene 1

 

1.     How much time has passed between the end of Act I and the beginning of Act II?  For how long have the Franks been in hiding?

2.      Miep and Mr. Kraler’s first visit creates two conflicts:  one over a cake, the other over a coat.  Describe each conflict and explain how they reveal the personalities of the people involved.

3.      What has happened to Mouschi?

4.      On pg. 897 Anne gets angry with Mrs. Frank.  Explain why.

5.      How does Anne’s speech on pg. 87, beginning “We’re young…” express the attitudes of young people today?

6.      How is the relationship between Peter and Anne changing in this scene?

 

Scene 2

1.     In what ways has Anne changed since the beginning of the previous scene?

2.     How do Anne and Margot differ?  In what ways does Margot show mature good sense when talking to Anne?

3.     As Scene two opens, Anne is getting ready for a “date” with Peter.  Give some details that show this to be a typical date.  How is it not typical?

4.     What is revealed about the personalities of Anne and Peter during their “date”?

5.     How do Mrs. Frank and Mrs. Van Daan react to Anne and Peter’s relationship?  Do each one separately.  Do you think their reactions are “typical” of most mothers?  Explain.
