Reading - 7th and 8th

Students Grades Will be Made up of the Following:

bulletquizzes
bullettests
bulletprojects/book reports
bullethomework

All assignments, quizzes, tests, and projects are given an assigned number of points.  The more points assigned, the more weight that grade has on the overall average.

A computer grading program is used to compute grades.  All grades are entered with the assigned number of points it is worth.  An average is then computed.

Any homework assignments that are collected and graded are figured into the average.

Other homework that is just checked makes up a homework grade.  Each assignment not completed on time gets a deduction of 10 points.  So if ten assignments are collected, and a student hands in eight of the ten, his/her homework grade is an 80.  The homework grade is then figured into the overall average.

When an assignment is collected and graded, students follow the school homework policy for late work.

A zero on an assignment or project can hurt a student's grade tremendously.  So, students, do not put yourself in this position.  Parents, please monitor your child's work and encourage them to make up the assignment within the given number of days allowed.

    Writing -7th and 8th

Students Grades Will be Made up of the Following:

bulletWriting Pieces
bulletDOL/Spelling Quizzes
bulletGrammar Tests
bulletEditing Grades
bulletHomework

The writing grade is figured out the same as the reading grade with each quiz, test, or assignment being assigned a given number of points.

The writing grade has two basic categories:

bulletWriting Pieces
bulletDOL/Editing/Spelling/Grammar

Writing Pieces:  Students will work on two to three major writing assignments each marking period.  These are done over a period of two-three weeks.  Therefore, the point value for these assignments will be 200-300 points.

As a student is working on a piece of writing, a variety of assignments will be checked along the way.  These assignments may include:  brainstorming, drafts, editing and revising assignments, etc.  These will checked for completion and will follow the same format as homework.  (See the explanation about homework grade under reading above)

DOL/Editing/Spelling/Grammar:  Weekly quizzes are given for the Daily Oral Language/Spelling  and sentence expansion work.  In addition, on writing pieces students will receive a separate editing grade.  During formal grammar units, tests may be given.  Most of the grades in this category will be worth 100-200 points.
