I Know a Family Barbecue

I Know a Family Barbecue

Red – checkered tablecloth on a picnic table laden with food

Brown bubbling baked beans, juicy hamburgers, and white creamy potato salad

Relative of all ages, the faces of many generations, smiling, laughing, and having fun

I Know a Family Barbecue

The clinking of the horseshoes

The cracking of the bat, and the cheers of the excited cousins as Johnny rounds the bases for home plate

The solitude and quietness of the pond while one watches the graceful swans gliding across the water

I Know a Family Barbecue

The sweet fragrance of the corn boiling in the large black pots

The smell of the flame-broiled burgers and hotdogs

The pungent and inviting aroma of the freshly brewed coffee

I Know a Family Barbecue.
