Seventh Grade Literary Essay on the Responsibility of Characters

You will be writing a literary essay that focuses on the responsibility of the following characters:

bulletBill in the short story 'Bill"
bulletSqueaky in the short story           "Raymond's Run"
bulletJerry in the short story "A Mother in Mannville"

The purpose of your essay is to show how these characters are responsible and to explain why these characters are responsible.

Your essay needs to begin with an introduction that states the titles and the names of the characters. Also, in the introduction you need to state and talk about the main point of the essay, which is the responsibility of these characters. This introduction should be short, approximately four or five sentences.

Then you will begin and write the body paragraphs. Each character/story will be a different body paragraph. Remember to use your elaboration rubrics for these paragraphs. Remember the following things when writing your body paragraphs:

bulletBegin with a Topic Sentence.
bulletEach body paragraph must have two subpoints.
bulletEach subpoint must have elaboration. Your elaboration should be a blend of your own ideas and specific details, examples, and quotes. One quoted passage must be included for each subpoint.
bulletAll quoted material needs to have quotation marks around it and a page number from the text.

Finally, you will end your essay with a conclusion where you restate in different words your ideas presented in the introduction. This is also a good place for personal comment about responsibility and these characters.
