FLIP BOOK

BOOK PROJECT

 

Materials: You will need the large 5 x 8 index cards. You can use white or colored cards. Be sure that one side of the card is ruled (lined). You will probably need a minimum of 10 cards.

You will set up your cards in the following way:

Cover

Place the following on the cover. Use the side of the card that is not ruled:

§ Title of the book underlined

§ The author of the book

§ The genre of the book (mystery, romance, sports fiction, horror, fantasy, science fiction, realistic fiction, etc.)

§ A picture that represents something in the book (You can draw, cut out pictures from magazines, or use computer graphics.)

Card One

Place the following on this card using the ruled side:

§ Setting – Describe briefly the setting

§ Point of View

§ Mood

Card Two- Character

Place the following information about the main character:

§ Name

§ Age (if given)

§ Physical Description

§ Picture (drawn, cut out, or computer graphic)

§ Place around the picture words and objects that represent something about the character

Card Three-Character

Do the same as for card two only for the second most important character in the book:

§ Name

§ Age (if given)

§ Physical Description

§ Picture (drawn, cut out, or computer graphic)

§ Place around the picture words and objects that represent something about the character

Card Four- Conflict

Place the following information about the main conflict:

§ In a few sentences, state the type of conflict and explain it.

Card Five-Plot Development

On this card place the following information about the plot development:

§ List the main events that occur in the book

§ Give at least two main events from the beginning

§ Give at least two main events from the middle

§ Give at least two main events from the ending. Be sure these events explain how the novel ends and the conflicts are resolved.

NOTE: From these events the teacher should be able to understand what happens in the novel. If you need to give more than six events you may; however, do not exceed two cards.

Card Six – Personal Reaction

§ Give a rating of one to five stars with five being the best.

§ Explain why you gave the rating you did. Give specific reasons.

Back Cover

Tell something about the author and list other books the author has written.

Instructions for Making the Book

§ Use pen, marker, or computer to write your cards. If you use the computer, type on paper and cut to the size of the card. Paste the paper onto the card. NO PENCIL

§ Write neatly

§ Punch holes at the top of the cards and bind with string, yarn, ribbon, or purchased rings.
