SCRAPBOOK PROJECT

When you have finished reading your novel, complete the following items and create a "Scrapbook" for your novel. As you read your novel, it is a good idea to keep notes on the information listed below.

Cover Create a cover for this project. This cover must include the title (underline this please!!!!), author, genre, and your name. Also, on this cover must be an illustration relating to the book. You may draw this, use computer graphics, or pictures cut from magazines. Be as creative as you wish. The cover should be neatly done and represent your best effort.

Character To complete these pages, begin by selecting one main character. Then do the following:

On the first page create a visual representation of this main character. You do not have to draw this character; you may use computer graphics, or pictures from magazines. Then around this character place pictures of items or things that are important to this character. For example if your character were the narrator from "The Bass, The River, and Sheila Mant", you would include pictures of fishing items and Sheila.

On the second page, write an explanation of the character’s personality. Describe the character using character traits, such as strong – willed, brave, unkind, etc. State one or two of the most important traits. Then support these traits with examples from the novel. This section should be about one page in length.

Conflict / Dear Diary For this section you will become the main character and write a two page diary entry that focuses on the following:

Begin with Dear Diary,

Become the main character and write in the first person point of view. Begin by telling and explaining the conflict you have faced in this novel. State the type of conflict and explain what problem you have been through.

Continue to explain how the conflict has been growing and developing and the complications that have come about as a result of the initial conflict. How have you been affected by the growing conflict?

Finally, tell how you have resolved this conflict and what you have learned by facing this conflict, or how this conflict has changed you.

Personal Reaction Page Write your reaction to the book. Begin by rating the book from one star to four stars. Then explain why you gave this rating. Be sure to support your opinion with specific examples and details from the novel. Then answer one of the following questions:

What part of the novel had the greatest impact on you and why?

What message did you get from the novel?

Final Touches:

When all the sections are finished, assemble the scrapbook. Remember one part of your grade will be based on your creativity, neatness, and effort. Use materials that will help you be neat and creative such as computers and computer graphics, markers, stencils, construction paper, magazine cutouts, and drawings. Once again use your creativity and try to present your scrapbook in an interesting way. Finally, your work will be checked for editing and mechanics, so be careful as you polish your work. No work is to be completed in pencil!!!!
